Drums that are presented here, are instruments that can serve many purposes, and at the same time are dedicated to self growth, expressing the heart, inner journeys, and spiritual practice in a broad sense of fully embodying Your potential as a Human Being. These drums have been build in the workshop for 16 years and during this time many adjustments have been made in order to improve and fine tune the construction giving a beautiful instrument, a drum of a light and very durable construction. The hide is assembled in a way that enables tuning in situation of humid surrounding or to loosen the tension when it is very hot and dry. This way You can sustain the sound that is best suited for Your needs at a given moment. In the video section there is an instruction movie on how to tune the drum. Once You get some practice it can be easily done in few minutes. The drums are made with natural row hide.
One of it’s qualities is working with the environment – humidity and temperature, so when very dry and warm the hide becomes very tense and the pitch goes up, and the opposite when humid it will loosen slightly and the sound will go down. For these Medicine Drums we use Goat, Fellow Deer or Deer row Hide. The hides are obtained locally in an ethical way, and than all the way prepared in our workshop.
To honor the animals that gave away their lives (killed not for to obtain the hide, but for meet and hunting) regularly a ritual offering to transform all the suffering related to unconsensuall kill, is being conducted. To me the complete process of making a drum is an act of honoring and gratitude – transforming the hide that would be utilized in one way or another, into a beautiful instrument dedicated to healing and growth. Each part and element of the drum is prepared hand made in our workshop.
